Astrophytum asterias cv.
It is a spineless Astrophytum cactus, native to Texas and Mexico in the United States, just like its original species, Astrophytum asterias. Hanazono Kabuto is a horticultural variety of Kabutomaru that was developed in Japan.
It has a fluffy white appearance. It was named "Hanazono Kabuto" (flower garden helmet) because the flowers bloom not only around the growing point but also in various places. Just looking at it is a plant that will soothe your soul.
■Location for keeping the plant
A sunny, well-ventilated location is suitable throughout the year. It is especially important to expose the plant to sufficient sunlight during the growing season from spring to autumn. However, in midsummer, it is necessary to avoid direct sunlight and block out the light using lace curtains or cheesecloth. In winter, the plant is sensitive to the cold, so it should be kept in a sunny location indoors and care should be taken to ensure that the minimum temperature does not fall below 5°C.
■Temperature control
The optimum temperature for growth is around 20 to 30°C, and it can tolerate temperatures up to 30 to 40°C during the day. The minimum temperature should be kept above 5°C, and water sparingly in winter as the plant goes into a dormant state.
■Watering
Growing season (spring to autumn): When the surface of the soil is dry, water it thoroughly until water flows out from the bottom of the pot.
Dormant period (winter): Limit watering and simply mist lightly once or twice a month on warm days.
■Soil and fertilizer
Please use potting soil for succulents and cacti that has good breathability and drainage.
Growing season: The growing season is from spring to autumn. During this period, apply the prescribed amount of slow-release fertilizer for cacti and succulents.
Growth slows in winter so do not fertilize.
