Gymnocalycium mostii var. kurtzianum
Native to the dry regions of Argentina. A species of Gymnocalycium cactus, it has stronger spines, a lighter body color, and stronger bumps than the standard species G. mostii. It also produces large white flowers with red bases, just like G. mostii.
■Location for care
Keep the plant in a location that receives plenty of sunlight throughout the year. Sufficient sunlight is especially important during the growing season. However, avoid direct sunlight or western sunlight in midsummer, and provide shading as necessary. It is also important to keep the plant in a well-ventilated location.
■Temperature control
Although it can withstand a certain amount of cold in winter, it should be kept in an unheated greenhouse or indoors in winter and care should be taken to keep it away from frost and cold winds. In summer, it is important to keep it in a well-ventilated place to prevent it from becoming stuffy.
■Watering
The basic rule is to water generously when the soil is dry. During the growing season (spring to autumn), water the plant after the soil has dried for a few days. Growth slows in summer and winter, so water sparingly. In summer in particular, be careful not to let the plant get too humid, and only water it lightly in the cool evenings. In winter, watering should be largely stopped, but it is a good idea to water it very little once or twice a month in the warm mornings.
■Soil and fertilizer
Please use potting soil for succulents and cacti that has good breathability and drainage.
It doesn't need much fertilizer.
