Mammillaria hahniana
Mammillaria Tamaokina is a type of cactus that is characterized by its appearance covered with white hair-like spines. Its scientific name is Mammillaria hahniana and it is native to Mexico.
The fluffy white thorns of this sphere give it a warm appearance, and the contrast with the pink flowers is a joy to behold.
■Location
Keep in a sunny place throughout the year. It is especially important to grow in a place with plenty of sunlight and good ventilation during the growing seasons of spring and autumn. In summer, keep in bright shade, avoiding direct sunlight, and in winter, when it goes dormant, keep in a sunny place indoors.
■Temperature control
As it is slightly more sensitive to cold than typical cacti, it needs to be kept at a temperature of 7°C or higher in winter. It likes full sun, but it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight in summer and shade it with lace curtains or cheesecloth.
■Watering
The frequency and amount of watering needs to be adjusted depending on whether the plant is in the growing season or dormant season. During the growing season in spring and autumn, water generously until water flows out from the bottom of the pot after the soil has completely dried. In summer and winter, the plant will enter a dormant period, so water it sparingly and reduce the number of times it is watered. In summer in particular, the humid heat can easily cause root rot, so water it in the evening or other cooler weather just until the soil is moist. In winter, water only a small amount about once a month in the morning on a warm, sunny day.
■Soil and fertilizer
Please use potting soil for succulents and cacti that has good breathability and drainage.
Fertilization is not necessary, but if you do, it is a good idea to apply a small amount of diluted liquid fertilizer in the spring and fall during the growing season. It is also effective to mix slow-release fertilizer into the soil when repotting. Be careful not to fertilize too much, as this can cause root rot.
